Funeral: Charles Frederick Crook, 1931

Context Note: Crook’s mother, unable to attend, was Anna (German) Crook – first-cousin of Henry Loram (1878-1954).


CLYST ST. MARY.

The funeral of the late P.C. Charles Crook took place in the churchyard. The service was conducted by the Rev. F. R. Salusbury (Rector) and was attended by the choir, under the direction of the organist (Miss Lavis). The mourners were Mrs. C. F. Crook (widow), Mr. F. Crook (father) [John Frederick Thomas Crook], Mr. and Mrs. W. Crook (brother and sister-in-law), Mr. A. Crook (brother), Mrs. Miflin (sister), Mrs. Warner and Mrs. German (aunts), Mrs. Street (sister-in-law), Mrs. J. German, Miss B. German, the Misses A. and N. Warner, and Mr. J. German (cousins), Mrs. and Miss Nelson and Miss Dunn. There were also present Messrs. Crocker, Sanders, L. Heyman, W. Cumes, F. Lake, J. Wills, L. Godsland, W. Rice, H. Newberry, A. Collings, and Mrs. Warren. The bearers were P.C.s Harding, Turner, Pack, Taylor, Pike, and Doney, and the following were also present: Inspector Dart, Sergt. Webber, Sergt. Warren, ex-Sergt.-Major J. Major, P.C.s Searle, Kiff, Newman, White, and Hosking. Among the many floral tributes were those from the “D” Division of the Devon Constabulary and his late comrades in the Exmouth district of the “D” Division. Mrs. F. Crook was unable to be present through indisposition.
