Death of Josiah Walker, 1948

BORN WHEN BEEF WAS 2/6 A CARCASE

IN 1853 – a year when Thomas Ekin was gaoled for a month for killing a pigeon at Brixworth when Dr. Pulvermacher’s patent portable hydro-electric chain (steaming electricity) was advertised as curing asthma and diseases of the liver, and beef was 2s 6d. a carcase in Newgate Market – Josiah Walker was born in Northampton.

He has died at his home, 37 Billing-road, Northampton, aged 95.

Mr. Walker was financial clerk and accountant at St. Andrew’s Hospital when he retired in 1923.

He was a director of Northampton and Midland Building Society from 1902 to 1947.

For many years he served on the committee of Northampton Town and County Conservative Club.
