Bouquet on Unknown Warrior’s tomb

BOUQUET ON UNKNOWN WARRIOR’S TOMB

‘From the Duchess of Gloucester’

Some time after the last visitor had left and the doors of Westminster Abbey had been locked for the night last night Canon Donaldson chanced to enter. As he passed the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior he saw in the dimness of the evening light at bunch of fragrant flowers upon the hallowed spot.

Stopping, he saw that it bore a card, on which were the Royal coat of arms and the written words – “From the Duchess of Gloucester.” It was her bridal bouquet.

Probably it was the first time on which the bride had used her new name. “It was a happy, kindly thought,” said Canon Donaldson.
