Memorial tablet at Caistor

CAISTOR.

MEMORIAL TABLET. – At the parish Church on Friday a memorial tablet was unveiled by the Bishop of Lincoln, in the presence of a large congregation. The tablet, a brass one, which is let in on the north side wall, near the entrance to the church, is placed in memory of the late Mr Hilary Francis Leonard Westbrook Westbrooke, the eldest son of the Vicar of Caistor (the Rev W. F. W. Westbrooke), and was subscribed for by the Caistor Cricket Club members and other friends. The Bishop, who was accompanied by his Chaplain (Canon W. F. Wilgress), read a special dedicatory prayer, followed by the Collect for “All Saints’ Day.” The tablet bears the inscription, “To the glory of God and in memory of Hilary Francis Leonard Westbrook Westbrooke, eldest son of the Vicar of Caistor, who was born at Corringham in the year 1881, and who, after serving his country in the Cape Mounted Police throughout the South African War, died in Northern Nigeria in 1907.” The Cricket Club was represented by Dr Gaman (captain), Messrs T. Mairs (vice-captain), V. Gould (secretary), G. E. Collins and W. Fagan (committeemen), W. V. Gross, F. B. Cousans, and others.
